MA- Fine Art Journey
The journey so far has been exciting, challenging and inspiring. With the massive bump in the road called Covid-19 has made the initial installation art impossible- A realm room full of interaction is a no go but it is some thing that will be done in the future.
what started out as a installation path of creativity has now come full circle with body art being the focus.
As this new academic journey in body art has started half way through the course I find new inspiration and other was of creating sensory and emotional connections to the work.
Chapter one
The first step... Heading down the route of installation in hope the pandemic fades soon to allow my vision become a reality. The focus is removing colour and work only in black and white- removing colour reduces subconscious connections one may, have allowing close to true sensory experience to the installation itself.
Using biological forms to help bring a familiarity to the work.
Feeling of the Environment and Art.
Exploring how art create emotion for the rooms has been an interesting journey and one that has led me back to the start with the Body art and the emotional connections plus benefits.
The 360 in this has naturally taken me down the path of Body art therapy and researching the effects it can have - currently focusing on mental health but leading to the possible research of physical health in the future. The realm room connection is still there and will be realised but currently this is my main focus... the one i went out to seek all those years ago.
Primary research has started and when Covid restrictions are lifted so the practical element can start - this is when more research will be added.
Art therapy is a thing and there is a lot of information out there and scientific evidence- but body art as therapy on a academic level, i am yet to find. This is going to be interesting and exciting but also a lot of hard work to push through and carry on after the MA with the research to produce an acceptable report.
This will not be a completed art by the end of the academic year - if any thing it is the start!
The End of the MA-Fine Art
The MA has come to an end- But not the end of my research. It was apparent that having Cos-paint therapy in the fine art world would not be easy but as a result I had learnt so much on the way.
The emphasis is still and will always be Body Art Therapy, with the MA being a focus on body positivity and getting Body art therapy noticed.
The end art work headed into a different direction as expected with three life size stain glass window of characters with another being a stain glass weapon- this was a small focus on prop making that aids the character transformation boosting positivity, the wall opposite the window hung items used with in body art such as nipple covers and modesty covers.
As the sunlight shines through the window the floor is graced with vibrant colours that illuminate those who walk through the corridor- which becomes another form of body painting, allowing everyone to feel the delight and play with the colours.
Seeing this completed it was then I realised that this is another way of using colour on the body for therapy.
The therapy route is one which is needed to be explored for the art to be considered by professionals for both Mental Health and Physical Health, ongoing research and trials to be carried out along with other forms of Character Transformation Therapy- such as Costume Play. The interest is understanding how Character Transformation helps many people with a range of health issues, yet with any form of therapy it is expected that this will not work for everyone and other forms of Art Therapy to be offered.
This takes Cos-painting into a new chapter...........
